Launch of free high-speed public WiFi service at Ujjain, Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati and Allahabad railway stations announced by Google. Along with this by end of the year they will also provide high-speed public WiFi service at 100 Railway stations across India. The function will be formally inaugurated by Suresh Prabhu the minister of Railways. Google said it has been providing the service over the extensive fibre network of Indian Railway’s arm Railtel that gives Internet services as RailWire. It also said that due to these launches public at 15 stations across the country can avail the facility of this service.
Due to the extraordinary response received to the service in Mumbai Central Google will now extend the project to cover key suburban Mumbai stations working with RailTel. Google also declared that now it will distribute the service in Dadar, Bandra Terminus , Churchgate, Thane, Kalyan, Panvel, Vashi, Kurla, Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, Borivali and few others station. Gulzar Azad, head of Access Programs, Google said, we are seeing incredible usage of the Wi-Fi service across the stations and over 2.5 lakhs users are using the service every week, demonstrating more than 2x growth in less than a month. Google has committed of working with Indian Railways and Railtel for delivering high-speed Wi-Fi network. By the end of this year this network will be made available to 10 million Indians.They will cover 100 of the busiest railway stations in India. This project will later on made available to over 400 railway stations all over India.
This free high-speed public Wi-Fi service of Railtel-Google is at present available at Mumbai Central, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda, Ernakulum Junction, Vishakhapatnam, Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati, Ujjain and Allahabad.
