After making waves in the international markets, Lenovo-owned Motorola has brought the latest Z game in India. The brand has launched the Moto Z and the Z Play for INR 39,999 and INR 24,999 and will be retailed through Amazon and Flipkart. Well, that not it, along with the smartphones, the brand has introduced ‘do more’ accessories. Called as the Moto Mods, these snap on accessories bump up the functionality of the Moto phones. These mods can be fitted on the compatible phone that sports a Moto Mods connector on the rear panel.

Speaking of the Moto Z, it gets a 5.5 inch AMOLED screen with 1440p Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution and 535 ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and is fitted on an Aircraft-grade aluminium chassis. The Moto Z also benefits from a Water repellent nano-coating helping it survive accidental splashes. It’s so called ‘Motorola Mobile Computing System’ comprises of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with up to 1.8 GHz Quad-core CPU and Adreno 530 GPU.
This is coupled with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and a 64GB internal memory can be expanded upto 2TB via microSD card. The camera unit includes a 13MP module on the rear and a 5MP unit on the front. All of this hardware is powered by a 2,600 mAh battery that supports turbocharging.
The Moto Z Play is affordable of the Z lot. At a price of INR 24,999, the Z Play packs a Full HD 5.5 inch Super AMOLED screen with 403 ppi. There is no mention that the Z Play uses Corning Gorilla Glass or Aircraft-grade aluminium chassis, hence we expect the construction will be partly plastic.
With Android 6.0.1, Marshmallow out of the box, the phone uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor – 2 GHz Octa-Core CPU coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 3GB LPDDR3 RAM. A 32GB of internal memory is available a storage expansion up to 2 TB via microSD Card. The camera config comprises of a 16MP rear shooter and a 5MP front camera. Unlike the small battery on the Moto Z, the Z Play gets a bigger – 3510 mAh battery that supports turbocharging as well.
As of now, Moto is selling the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera and the Insta Projector mobile Mods in India. The HasselBlad True Zoom Camera mod brings 10x optical zoom, Xenon flash, and RAW format capturing capabilities to the phone. It also automatically makes a backup of photos.
The Insta Projector mobile Mod converts the phone into a portable projector that is said to be able to create a 177.8 cm (70″) screen on any flat surface. It also comes with 1 hour of battery back-up. Also on offer is a JBL mod that enhances the Moto Z experience with extra powerful speakers, but the same is not listed on the e-commerce websites.
