VIDEO: Trailer of ‘MS Dhoni : The Untold Story’ shows Dhoni in shades of grey

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a phenomenon. His meteoric rise from being a small city guy to becoming the captain of the Indian cricket team is stuff of the legends. The Indian skipper recently launched the newest trailer of his upcoming movie MS Dhoni : The Untold Story. The trailer was launched at DAV Kulachi Hansraj Model School where Sushant Singh Rajput, the actor playing MS Dhoni studied. Coincidentally, even MS Dhoni also studied at a DAV school in Ranchi, a reason why the trailer was launched at the school’s branch in Delhi. MS Dhoni has co-produced his own biopic, which has Neeraj Pandey as its director. The upcoming movie also stars Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla, Rajesh Sharma and Kiara Advani and is slated for a release on 30th September.

The latest released trailer reveals a lot about what to expect in the movie. MS Dhoni insists that the movie doesn’t glorify him, and is a story of a man as it’s supposed to be told, without any exaggerated, heroic portrayal. MS also says that he left his portrayal entirely to Neeraj for the movie, and didn’t interfere.

“When Neeraj came to me for the film, I told him, ‘Ask whatever you want to ask but beyond that I want this film to be your own’… I answered all his questions and then he took it ahead,” he said at the trailer launch. The trailer’s launch was attended by Neeraj Pandey, Sushant and the film’s producers alongside Dhoni.

“I never knew what my parents thought about me when I was getting into cricket or what they felt about my journey. I never asked them… Through this film, I got to know. So, this was a new angle for me in the movie. It was the most special bit. I think my schooling years were the best times of my life. My coach at school told me that I should play cricket and from there things began… So, I will never forget this part of my life. My school encouraged sports and other activities, and I feel that’s how it should be everywhere. Sports should not be looked down upon.” he added.

Incidentally, in one of the scenes of the movie, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is shown as asking the selectors to drop three of the most senior players in the Indian cricket team. No names are takes, but who those three players could be is anybody’s guess. That’s some dark portrayal of an immensely popular man. Whether the movie actually paints a grim picture of him is something we’d get to know only when it releases.
