MWC 2016 could see LG and Samsung go head-to-head

The 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC), held February 22-25 in Barcelona, could see two of this year’s most hotly anticipated smartphones unveiled almost simultaneously, as rival South Korean manufacturers LG and Samsung go head to head to present successors to the G4 and Galaxy S6. Both companies are putting their best foot forward at the event, and are rumored to be simultaneously releasing their latest flagships. The LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 are expected to clash together in a head to head race to gain admirers in the upcoming event next month.

Although LG is yet to confirm that the G4’s replacement will be called the G5, the firm’s new flagship handset is set to be officially unveiled at the MWC 2016 in Barcelona, stealing some of the limelight from its key competitor, Samsung. At the end of 2015, a credible set of specs for LG’s new handset was leaked on Reddit and it pointed towards a smaller screen than the G4 i.e. 5.3 inches. The G4 has a screen size of 5.5 inches. But both the phones are expected to have the same resolution (2560 x 1440p) and 64ppi pixel density.

According to several leaks spotted on the Chinese social network Weibo, subsequently picked up by international media, the upcoming Samsung “Galaxy S7” which is officially codenamed ‘TBC’ could come with a 4K display like the Sony Xperia Z5 and a whole load of previously unseen components. Following suit with the Galaxy S6, Samsung’s new flagship handset is also expected to land in several versions with varying specs and performances.
