New Low: BSNL offers mobile data at Rs.36 per GB

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has announced that under its Rs.291 plan, a customer will be able to enjoy 8GB of bundled data with a validity of 28 days. Earlier, the same plan offered only 2GB of data each month. Another, data only, Rs.78 plan will now offer 2GB of data, and with these plans, BSNL is now offering data at the rate of Rs 36 per GB, which is one of the lowest in the Industry.

Earlier, one of its private rivals Vodafone had announced a ‘Super Hour’ offer, under which, its prepaid customers can enjoy unlimited 3G/4G data at Rs 16/hr. Airtel on the other hand has started offering 3GB of free 4G data for its existing and new customers, every month, until December 31, 2017. Subscribers can avail this offer as long as they latch on to select Airtel 4G Prepaid and Postpaid plans. The offer is available across India until February 28.

Recently, Idea and Vodafone confirmed talks about entering a merger, which would make them together the largest telecom operator in India. Although the game has been turned on its head by Reliance Jio, which has been offering free 1GB data every day for its subscribers until March 31st. Post that, the operator is rumored to continue with the free shower, although at a nominal cost of Rs.100/month. The cash rich operator has also planned to invest an amount of Rs.30,000 crore in its existing infrastructure in order to boost its network coverage.
