Canon has rolled out three kickass cameras in the market that include two DSLRs and a compact interchangeable lens camera. The trio will be made available in the market from April 2017. While Canon has its game sorted for this year, it seems Nikon is still stuttering for a good start. The sad news of the day is that Nikon Corporation announced that that sale of their highly anticipated DL series of premium compact camera has been canceled!
What the EOS M series is for Canon is what the DL series is for Nikon. Nikon has not just canceled one product but has shelved the complete DL series of premium compact cameras that includes – the DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8, DL24-85 f/1.8-2.8, and DL24-500 f/2.8-5.6. The series was initially prepped up for a launch in June 2016 and then delayed due to issues regarding the integrated circuit for image processing. The latest decision of dropping the DL series is reportedly executed stating financial issues.
In an official statement Nikon has stated that – Since then, everyone involved has worked very hard to develop products with which our customers will be satisfied. However, it has been decided that sales of the DL series will be canceled due to concerns regarding their profitability considering the increase in development costs, and the drop in the number of expected sales due to the slow-down of the market.
We sincerely apologize to all those affected by this decision, especially those customers who waited so long for the cameras to be released, retailers and others whose business will be affected, for the inconvenience this decision may cause.
