This week, several exciting announcements have been made at Apple’s annual WWDC conference. Unfortunately some news from WWDC 2016 has been very disappointing. Especially owners of an older iPhone or iPad were concerned as very soon their phone would become outdated. Owners of iPhone 4s released in 2011, the iPad 2 and the iPad 3, the iPad Mini and the fifth generation iPod Touch will not receive updates for the operating system on their device any longer.

Apple had not originally intended to provide the owners of these devices updates for such a long period. Actually they were not expected to be compatible with iOS 9 as these devices use Apple’s A5 chip. It had come as a surprise that these devices were compatible with iOS 9. But, the old hardware of these devices cannot compete with the advanced hardware of iOS 10. As the older version of the iPhone was discontinued a few years ago, the owners of the iPhone 4s may not be completely shocked by this news. But the iPad Mini, which was originally out in 2012, was being sold in the market till March last year, and therefore this news comes as a shock to these owners.
Research conducted by MixPanel reveals that approximately 3.41 percent of iPhone users have the iPhone 4s and will therefore be affected by this change. On the other hand when we consider iPad Mini, we find that not only 15.9 percent iPad Mini owners but also 20.5 percent of iPad owners that still use iPad 2 and iPad 3 will be impacted by this change. To target victims, hackers are always on the look out for finding new ways and without these updates your device could easily become vulnerable to malpractices done by such hackers.
