Now use Opera Mini in 13 Indian Languages

Popular mobile browser Opera Mini just got a new update that adds support for 90 global languages, including 13 from India. With the update, Indian users can browse on Opera Mini in Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Users will be prompted with a notification to select their language of choice once they’ve updated the browser to the latest version. Research suggests that more than 70 percent of Indians do not use English as their primary language, hence the addition of 13 native Indian languages will certainly break the barriers of communication and encourage Indian users to come online. This can certainly prove to be a strong impetus to those who have the means but are still restricted due to lack of specific technical advances that suits their requirement.

Christian Uribe, Product Manager of Opera Mini said, we are continuing our efforts to bring the internet to as many people as possible, not only by making it possible to access the internet on low-bandwidth networks with our compression technology, but also by making sure that our browser is easy for anyone to use and understand. The improved language support is an important part of our efforts. We’ve made loads of improvements and tweaks lately to improve the stability and speed of downloads.

The new update also adds support for QR code reader and generator for Opera Mini. Uribe says that with a QR code users can do a quick scan with their phone’s camera as often typing long URLs can get rather frustrating. The company also says that Opera Mini now offers improved stability and speed in the download manager.
