With an aim to train over 250 students in the next year through workshops and sessions in order to develop skills in deep learning and CUDA Nvidia has collaborated with two Indian Institutes of Technology. By joining forces with IIT-Guwahati (IIT-G) and IIT-Roorkee (IIT-R) the team will develop top talent in high-performance computing (HPC) programming and deep learning.
Nvidia Inception Program introduced to support Artificial Intelligence Innovation in India
Sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, the Electronics & ICT Academy program will help IIT-G and IIT-R plan to set up a training academy to develop skill sets in fundamental and advanced aspects of AI to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Both institutes will also be setting up a deep learning training lab infrastructure to give participants hands-on training. The academy is also open for entrepreneurs and developer training needs.
On the occasion Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Nvidia – South Asia said that to stay ahead in this competitive environment, it is important for faculty and students to upgrade their skills and meet the needs of industry. Nvidia recently launched the Deep Learning Institute in India, training over 400 developers in the latest deep learning techniques. He further added that their work with IIT-G and IIT-R is an effort to develop the nation’s skill requirements to meet the fast-moving needs of industry and research organizations. With this collaboration, they hope to advance the country’s research across a range of scientific and engineering fields.
Nvidia Deep Learning Institute coming to India for the first time
On the same, Professor Gautam Biswas, Director of IIT Guwahati expressed that the latest technology graphics processing unit (GPU) technology from Nvidia and its ability to accelerate neural networks have created a new wave in the computing industry. Global markets including India are investing and engaging in vast development and research activities in HPC and deep learning. IIT-G E&ICT Academy, in partnership with Nvidia, will develop skills in these areas to meet the demands of industry in the coming years.
The Principal Investigator of the project, ‘E & ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee’, Dr. Sanjeev Manhas added that with this program, the faculty and students will greatly benefit from exposure to cutting-edge technology and practices and be able to create the roadmap for future growth. They look forward to advancing knowledge as well as industry practice through this collaboration.
