One Direction and Pharrell Williams to headline Apple’s rebranded Music Festival

Apple has announced the headliners for its annual music extravaganza in London, now renamed simply as Apple Music Festival from iTunes Festival.

On Tuesday, Apple announced that the musicians will be among the headlining performers at the 10-night festival at London’s Roundhouse that begins Sept. 19. Festival performances will be broadcast live and on-demand on Apple Music, and additional material will be available on the app’s Beats 1 radio. UK residents can apply to win tickets on Apple Music, as well as through a number of media partners such as the London Evening Standard.

Apple has rebranded the festival in light of its new online music streaming service. “We wanted to do something really special for music fans this year,” said Eddy Cue, a senior vice president at the company. The Apple Music Festival is a greatest hits set of 10 unbelievable nights featuring some of the best performers on the planet appearing live and interacting directly with their fans on Connect and Beats 1.”

Niall Horan of One Direction said the group is excited to return to London “to perform for our fans in the Roundhouse and around the world on Apple Music!”

“We’re super excited to play our first ever show for Apple Music Festival at the Roundhouse, one of our favourite venues in London,” said Disclosure. “It’s also the day our album’s released so that makes it extra special.”

Past performers at the iTunes Festival, which ran for eight years, have included Adele, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Elton John.
