OnePlus has announced the launch of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition in India and globally on August 7. This special edition will introduce a new colorway, potentially alongside other upgrades in RAM and storage. The original OnePlus Open, released in India in October 2023, was available in a single configuration featuring 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
New Color and Design
The upcoming OnePlus Open Apex Edition is teased to feature a new “Crimson Shadow” colorway. According to a teaser shared by OnePlus on X (formerly known as Twitter), this new color option, described as a shade of crimson in a vegan leather finish, draws inspiration from the brand’s iconic “Never Settle” red. This addition will join the existing color options of Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black.
Expected Specifications and Enhancements
While OnePlus has not disclosed detailed specifications for the Apex Edition, it is expected to retain the core features of the standard OnePlus Open. However, there might be enhancements, particularly in RAM and storage, as hinted by a listing on OnePlus’ official website. The standard model boasts a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, paired with an Adreno 740 GPU, and offers 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM along with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The Apex Edition may include similar or upgraded specifications.
Display and Camera Features
The OnePlus Open features a 7.82-inch 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED primary display with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 2,800 nits. The external screen is a 6.31-inch 2K LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED display, also supporting the same refresh rate and brightness levels.
The device is equipped with a Hasselblad-branded triple camera system. This setup includes a 48-megapixel Sony LYT-T808 primary sensor with both optical and electronic image stabilization, a 64-megapixel telephoto lens with an OmniVision OV64B sensor, and a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultra-wide-angle lens. For selfies, the OnePlus Open offers a 20-megapixel camera on the primary display and a 32-megapixel camera on the cover display.
Future Models and Release Plans
While the Apex Edition is an enhanced variant of the existing OnePlus Open, it is not positioned as a successor. The next major iteration, the OnePlus Open 2, is rumored to launch in the second quarter of 2025, potentially featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
The OnePlus Open Apex Edition continues to uphold the brand’s tradition of blending cutting-edge technology with sleek design. With the introduction of the new colorway and possible upgrades, it aims to offer a refined experience for tech enthusiasts and loyal customers.
