Opera’s launches own ad-blocker for Android and desktop

Advertisements while browsing are often annoying and distracting. They serve as the sole revenue generating tool for the websites that often provide users with free content. The end users end up cursing the advertisements. An ad blocker comes in handy at this time as the app effectively blocks all ads on the website. Opera, a widely used browser, in both android phones and windows computers, has now integrated an ad blocker to its browsers, starting with Opera Mini browser for Android.

According to the company, integrating the ad-blocker technology directly into the browser code, the new Opera for computers is expected to speed up page loading by almost 89 percent compared to browsing without ad blocking, which is some serious increase in the speed. It is also 45 percent faster compared to Google Chrome, with third-party ad-blocking extensions installed. Chrome is the sought after browser these days due to its speed and reliability.

Android phone users have another reason to rejoice. For mobile users, the added advantage to removing online ads culminates into saving money on the data bill. By blocking ads, users who prefer Opera Mini can achieve up to an additional 14 percent in data savings on top of the usual savings that the browser already provides. So that amount of data is also deducted from a user’s mobile data allowance. By removing online ads, experts claim that Opera Mini is expected to load webpages 40 percent faster than with the ad blocker disabled.

Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera said, Opera is the first browser company to offer an native ad blocker across devices. We do this because we want to provide people with the fastest browsers in the market. Our speed test shows that online ads slow down the browsing experience. Now, with Opera, you can browse a lot faster than, for example, in Chrome.
