Pebble, the most successful player in the smartwatch category at present, has just pushed out a firmware update (version 2.9) for its devices, in addition to an update for its official Pebble App for Android (version 2.3) on the Google Play store. The update brings with it support for Actionable notifications and Android Wear compatibility for those pairing their Pebble with a phone running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. The update allows you to have five pre-written replies to notifications and also allows you to reply to a SMS message from your Pebble, using most Android compatible messaging apps. The update will also allow you to receive WhatsApp notifications and it allows for Automatic app and watch face updates when Pebble is idle.
Pebble first added this support back in December, but it was limited to beta testers at the time. Now, anyone can take advantage of this update to pair their Android Wear apps with their Pebble, while retaining the same tried and tested functionality of original Pebble apps at the same time. The feature should help Pebble compete with actual Android Wear devices like the Moto 360.
For those on the Apple side of things, the iOS update can be found in the Apple App Store, and takes the app to version 2.6.4. It adds the JavaScript Pebble apps available for iOS users in the Pebble app store. It also adds bug fixes and stability improvements, but even Pebble admits that there are no major changes from iOS 2.6.
