PlanetSide 2 is coming to PlayStation 4 on Jan. 20 in closed beta form, developer Sony Online Entertainment confirmed today. The free-to-play shooter will roll out to a “few thousand” players who have opted in to play the beta test of the massively multiplayer online FPS. Like other free-to-play games on PS4, PlanetSide 2 will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online. The Windows PC version of PlanetSide 2 was released on Nov. 20, 2012. Developer SOE plans to keep the PC and PS4 versions of the game separate and will not support cross-platform play.
“We’ll be using this beta period to test our servers, performance, and various other aspects of the game, and we also want you to share constructive feedback on PlanetSide 2,” executive producer Clint Worley wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “How does the game look and feel? Is navigating through the menus intuitive and utilizing DualShock 4 in the best way? All players in the Closed Beta will have access to our special Beta forums, which will be the primary location for development interaction and feedback.”
