Virtual reality might seem amazing for the first time. However, there is very little motivation for people to actually buy a VR headset. One of world’s largest adult website PornHub has partnered with VR porn store, BaDoink to offer another reason to get one. The idea behind offering porn on VR is simple– making videos more realistic. And for the VR industry, it is another unsaid reason for people to buy more headsets. According to researchers, porn has been a major motivator for people to adopt a new technology in the past, including the internet.
The publisher has dedicated a new page for adult VR content. Users would need to get any VR headset to experience it. However, it is basically a blurry 360-degree video and not a full-fledged 3D VR video. With VR content finding interest among adult video publishers, this might be the right kind of blessing the VR headset makers are praying for, secretly. In 2015, India knocked out Canada to grab the third position – after the US and Britain – in visiting one Pornhub. In its annual review of how people around the world watch porn, Pornhub found that while the US added 11 seconds to their average time spent on watching porn, India – at 9 minutes 30 seconds – recorded a higher average time with a one-minute increase in the duration of each visit.
Porn is also said to have been an influencing factor in the adoption of VHS vs. Betamax and HD DVD vs. Blu-ray. It’s even been claimed that we have the porn industry to thank for the fast broadband connections that allow us to download large video files in seconds.
