A modular Android powered smart phone was shown by Google on Friday. They have said that this new smart phone will be available in the market in the next year. In the Silicon Valley city of Mountain View we find Google’s annual developers conference is going on. On the last day of the conference, it was revealed that for quite some time people speculated that Project Ara is not making any progress, but this speculation is wrong, as Project Ara is making progress and will be available to the customers in the coming year.
Developers who are interested in creating applications for the devices can do so by getting access to an early version of Ara. In this, by using the frame provided users can rearrange cameras, speakers, and sensors like game pieces and there by customize handsets. In the conference Google said that a consumer version of Ara will most probably be available by next year.
At World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, last year for the first time Ara prototype was unveiled. At that time Google had said that they hoped that for the people of developing countries, Ara will provide easy access to smart phones. In Ara, they used a very simple principle, that is they have used magnets in the basic structure to hold screen modules, batteries, cameras, sensors, 3G, Wi-Fi or other components together. The advantage of this is that in case a smart phone breaks or a new version of mobile has come in the market then they don’t have to worry, as all they have to do is just swap out the components. The cost of Ara is not yet revealed, but last year Google referred to an entry-level model with a production cost of $50.
