This week in Rajasthan, a top Apple executive visited solar mamas, which is a rural school and imparted lessons on iPads. At the same time we find Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO revealing his business plans in India and Lisa P Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives who directly reports to him visiting Ajmer’s non-profit Barefoot College in Tilonia.
On Thursday Tim Cook retweeted what Lisa Jackson had tweeted earlier that Powerful: Visiting amazing solar mamas in Rajasthan and visiting a school using iPads to teach. @BarefootCollege.The Barefoot College was founded by social activist Sanjit Bunker Roy. This collage is called solar mamas as it trains rural women in assembling and manufacturing solar lamps. In order to help communities and individuals to take control of not only their lives but also the well being of their communities Barefoot College connects rural communities to not only to solar, water and education but also to professions and advocacy.
Lisa has taken lot of efforts to see Apple reduce its impact on environment. She does so by addressing climate change with the help of renewable energy and energy efficiency. She stresses on using greener materials and inventing new methods of conserving precious resources. According to the Apple website, she is responsible not only for Apple’s education policy programmes like ConnectED, but also for its product accessibility work and its worldwide government affairs function. She served as an administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency from 2009 to 2013.
