Report: Apple Intelligence to Include Google Gemini AI Integration Alongside ChatGPT on iOS 18

Apple is reportedly considering integrating Google’s Gemini AI into iOS 18 when Apple Intelligence launches later this year, as suggested by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. At WWDC 2024, Apple announced its collaboration with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, to its iOS platform. While Apple did not mention Google’s AI model during the event, the company confirmed post-event that it is exploring integration possibilities for multiple third-party AI models.

According to Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple has clarified that it is not in discussions with Meta to bring Llama 3 to iOS 18, despite earlier reports. Instead, Apple is actively working on integrating Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude AI into its smartphones.

The report indicates that if timing aligns, Apple may offer both Gemini and ChatGPT by the time Apple Intelligence is fully rolled out. Previous reports suggested that some AI features, such as those in the Mail app and Swift Assist for Xcode, might be delayed until late 2024 or early 2025. Most of Siri’s advanced AI capabilities are expected to follow in 2025.

Gurman’s report also notes Apple’s post-WWDC discussions with YouTuber iJustine, where Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, mentioned the company’s exploration of partnerships with Google and Anthropic.

Apple Intelligence encompasses a suite of on-device and cloud-based features that will span apps and interfaces across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices with the upcoming OS update.
