After Swedish automobile Giant Volvo entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft to develop high end technologies, Samsung electronics is now in the news for inking a deal with German luxury automaker – Audi. The South Korean electronics company will provide memory chips for Volkswagen’s Audi, mainly for its infotainment, dashboard and driver assistance applications. This news was disclosed by Samsung Electronics in a blog post dated Monday. In the event of this deal moving ahead, several other leading automobile manufacturers will rush ahead to partner with electronics giants for new innovations and technologies in their respective vehicles.
Samsung Electronics also revealed that its sister companies are reportedly making a push to supply quality electronic components to makers of sophisticated automobiles. One can expect new features and innovations with respect to the infotainment systems, and safety features which rely on several sensors correlating information between each other and even the plethora of electronic features available on the dashboard of a vehicle. The details of the deal were not revealed and therefore it is too early to say whether the R & D team of both the companies will be working together or indigenously developing components which will later be tested.
Financial terms related to the deal were also not disclosed which means that the deal is still in the preliminary stage and only after certain things are worked out, it will move ahead. Samsung has reportedly been spreading its wings and recently also entered into a partnership with Apple to provide OLED panels for its upcoming smart phones. Rumors are also afloat that the South Korean Giant will be the main supplied to Apple’s A9 chipset.
With this new deal with Volkswagen’s Audi, Samsung is sure to go a long way building relationships with major manufacturers around the world.
