Unlike what the tech giants would have us believe, their businesses are driven to a large extent by gimmicks pretending to look like genuine breakthroughs. Smartphone technology, from being revolutionary, has turned evolutionary and fans who want to be at the bleeding edge of technology are feeling increasingly frustrated. So as technologies, or in most cases, gimmicks which were first introduced on smartphones that required you to rob a bank to own one, trickle down on cheaper phones, the big boys have to create new illusions which they can term as ‘tech’, package them in a velvet bag and sell you for a thousand dollars.
Samsung seems to be readying its new Note 7, and to ensure that it has its own set of tech and gimmicks to counter the much anticipated iPhone 7, it is apparently equipping the bestseller phablet with crazy specs and a few interesting tricks. Talking of the specs first, the Note 7 is expected to come loaded with 6 GB of generous RAM, a 5.7 inch quad HD screen and a top drawer processor.
In terms of design, the new phone, thanks to some allegedly leaked images from Sam Mobile, reveals its not too jazzy design, though it maintains its please all, well built, quality demeanour. The battery on the new phone would be larger, and the famed S-Pen would be tweaked further on the new Note, we hear.
Covering the headline for this piece, the new phone will also feature iris scanning as a feature. The biometric scanning feature will employ two openings alongside the front camera of the phone to read your eyeball pattern. Samsung is also keeping the trusty old fingerprint scanner on the job here though. The user will have to hold the phone at an arm’s length, facing the camera, and adjusting the screen to fit the eyes within the two circles on it. The image captured on the screen will then be assessed for authentication. Samsung claims that the tech would work faster than a fingerprint scanner, though we have our doubts.
The new Galaxy Note 7 will be unveiled on August 2. Apart from the specs mentioned above, more details about the phone include a curved Super AMOLED display, a 12-megapixel rear, 5 megapixel front camera. 64GB internal storage, a microSD + UFS hybrid memory card slot and a 3600mAh battery.
