Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris – All you need to know

On Wednesday, Samsung launched its Make in India tablet in the country, known as the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris. This tablet which is costing INR 13,499 is targeted at government and corporate employees. The most important feature of this tablet is that it bears an iris scanner that is Aadhar, STQC, and UIDAI certified. The company has not yet revealed the release date.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris is launched under the auspices of the Digital India initiative. This Android Lollipop-based Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris is a 3G-enabled tablet which can be used with the help of a SIM card slot. It features a 7-inch WSVGA having 1024×600 pixels display. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core SoC, along with 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM.The Galaxy Tab Iris has a 5-megapixel primary autofocus camera, and is powered with 8GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded with the help of a microSD card up to 200GB.  It can also be connected with either Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n or Bluetooth v4.1 or Micro-USB. It weighs only 327 grams. It is powered by a 3600mAh battery, that measures 193.4×116.4×9.7mm.

The onboard iris scanner is being called a dual-eye scanner by the company.In a press statement, the South Korean consumer electronics giant said that the Galaxy Tab Iris will help provide cashless and paperless services in applications such as banking, apart from e-governance services such as passport, taxation, healthcare, and education. To help build solutions for financial inclusion, payment, and authentication the company announced that they will be releasing an Identity SDK to software developers.Samsung said the overall offering will help boost the government’s Digital India programs like the Jan-Dhan Yojana and E-Citizen services.
