Samsung Electronics have launched their cord-free earbuds, the Gear IconX. And going by what we have seen of them thus far, they’re going to be a rage among fitness freaks in no time. Available only in select markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, Canada, Australia and Korea for now, the Gear IconX will gradually be launched around the rest of the globe. The cool looking earbuds are priced at $192 in South Korea
Focused primarily around fitness enthusiasts the Gear IconX offers an array of features which will appeal hugely to those who like listening to music while exercising. To start off, these ear buds feature an in-ear heart rate monitor and a standalone music player. It can also track and provide instant feedback for fitness data, such as distance, speed, duration, heart rate and calories burned, and easily syncs with S Health app.
With an internal storage of 4 GB, these buds can easily store for up to 1,000 MP3 songs. There are no confusing buttons here. You can play music, or go to next or previous track through single, double and triple tap respectively. Volume can be controlled by swiping up and down, while a long press would make the buds read out the menu for you. Since the battery, software and memory is built into the buds, you don’t need to carry your smartphone during a workout to listen to music.
With the IconX buds Samsung has re-imagined the ear buds, which now fit snugly, securely and comfortably and are available in three different sizes of eartips and wingtips. The Gear IconX is available in three colors – black, blue and white.
The Gear IconX comes with a charging case that not only keeps the earbuds safe, but can also be used for charging them. What’s really great is that the case holds for up to two additional charges that begin automatically when the earbuds are placed inside.
It’s a really cool design and execution. The IconX earbuds rid you of awkward devices which bother you while you work out. With a tap and hold of the touchpad located on the earbud, you can launch activity tracking and receive real-time status updates.
The earbuds provide data such as heart rate, distance, speed, duration and calories burned through the Voice Guide, even without a smartphone. In addition, utilizing its built-in heart rate monitor, the Gear IconX’s standalone voice guide can help you stay in the Vigorous Intensity Zone for a more effective workout.
After the workout, you can transfer and manage recorded data on your smartphone with seamless integration with the S Health application. Through Bluetooth connectivity, Gear IconX also provides real-time heart rate data transfer to select third-party applications.
