Sinead O’Connor trashes Rolling Stone’s Kim Kardashian cover: “Music has officially died”

Never one to shy away from speaking her mind, Irish musician Sinead O’Connor has declared “music is dead” amid an expletive-laden assault on Kim Kardashian’s appearance on the cover of respected music magazine, Rolling Stone.

O-Connor let fly a stream of epithets on her Facebook page Tuesday after the scantily clad reality star star landed on the cover of the music mag.  “What is this c*** doing on the cover of Rolling Stone?” she questioned.

“Music has officially died. Who knew it would be Rolling Stone that murdered it? Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh can no longer be expected to take all the blame. Bob Dylan must be f**king horrified.”

O-Connor’s post has already gone viral over social media and just hours after it was posted it has received nearly six thousand ‘likes’. Many of her fans agreed with her post, with one writing: “Wow, I have no respect, she shouldn’t be on the cover of the rolling stone ick eeek.” Another added: “Now i officially hate Rolling Stone.”

That said, some fans were not too happy with the singer’s choice of language on social media. One wrote: “You know Sinead O’Connor I freaking adore you… however calling anyone the C word especially on social media, and especially given your status in the music world its disappointing. Kim is just a product created and enhanced by the media – if anything I would be focussing on Rolling Stone and not the cover girl (whom has no viable talent btw)(sic).”

Reality-TV juggernaut, selfie queen, actress, model, mother, Internet-breaker, entrepreneur and video game subject Kim…

O’Connor, who scored a No. 1 in 1990 with “Nothing Compares 2 U”, has never been afraid to make her strong views known. In 2013 she wrote three open letters to Miley Cyrus, following the release of her single Wrecking Ball, in which she appears almost naked, urging the singer to “send a healthier message to her peers” and respect herself by keeping her clothes on.

In this case, she was furious when she saw the Keeping up with the Kardashians star getting the famed cover – long a prize doled out to musicians such as John Lennon, Bono, Dylan and Neil Young.

To be fair, while music coverage is what Rolling Stone is best known for, it is a popular culture publication. Kardashian is a popular culture figure and certainly not the first non-musician to appear on the cover.
