Taylor Swift releases bonus songs from 1989 album on iTunes

Taylor Swift took to Twitter to announce that the deluxe edition of her album 1989, which was released to Target last October, will be making its way to iTunes, one song at a time, beginning with “Wonderland.” You Are in Love” is the next bonus track on the album and was produced by Jack Antonoff of Bleachers and ‘fun.’ fame. The third bonus single still to come is entitled “New Romantics.”

Previously, these three tracks had been available on a Target-exclusive deluxe edition of 1989 and in select countries outside of the United States. Swift’s announcement last night makes iTunes the first digital storefront on which the three bonus tracks are available. Since its acquisition of Beats, Apple has had somewhat of a renewed focus on the music industry and Taylor Swift’s impromptu release further highlights that focus for Apple.

Previously, Taylor Swift fans were forced to buy the deluxe CD version of her newest album if they wanted a legal way to hear the three bonus tracks. The iTunes edition of 1989 only included the 13 tracks available on the standard album, and the pop megastar pulled her entire catalog from streaming service Spotify last year, leading to a much-publicized spat. The pop and country superstar emerged the winner in the end since she’s one of the very few artists still around with a fan base big enough to sell a vast number of CDs in today’s music industry.

1989, her fifth studio album, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 when it came out and went on to become 2014’s best-selling album. The video for its most recent single, “Style,” came out last week.
