Sony has launched the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 selfie-focused smartphones in single and dual-SIM variants, to be available in select countries across emerging markets starting mid-August.
The larger and cheaper C5 Ultra first. Both the front and rear feature 13 MP cameras with LED flash modules, powered by Sony’s Exmor RS sensor. Some of the camera tools on the Xperia C5 Ultra include video stabiliser, auto scene recognition, 25mm wide-angle lens (rear) with an 80-degree field of view, 4x digital zoom, full-HD video recording, image stabiliser, geotagging, and red-eye reduction among others.
The display is a supersized 6-inch IPS LCD affair, with with a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. By trimming the side bezels as much as possible, Sony has managed to achieve a width of 79.6 millimeters for the Xperia C5 Ultra, which we hope will make it not so difficult to grasp. Unfortunately, features like water resistance and stereo speakers are not listed in the device’s specs sheet. Black, white, and mint green are the three colors the Xperia C5 Ultra comes in.
Powering the C5 Ultra is a 64-bit, octa-core MediaTek SoC processor with a 1.7GHz maximum clock speed, an ARM Mali760 MP2 GPU running at 700 MHz. 2 GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board, along with a microSD card slot that accepts cards of up to 200GB. It packs a 2930mAh battery; measures 164.2×79.6×8.2mm and weighs 187 grams.
Then there’s the Xperia M5, touted to be a mid-range “waterproof Android smartphone.” However, with a rear camera clocking in at 21.5-MP, it isn’t exactly lagging behind in the camera department. Just like the C5 Ultra detailed above, the Xperia M5 also sports a 13-MP front-facing selfie machine. The M5 isn’t as large as the C5 Ultra, should you be looking for something smaller than a ‘phablet’, and has a modest 5-inch HD display.
Interestingly, Sony opted to make the Xperia M5 waterproof and is protected against accidental splashes, just for those times when you decide to use your phone during a thunderstorm, while outside. There’s a 2,600mAh battery loaded, powering a 64-both 2.0GHz octa-core processor, and 3GB of RAM. The Xperia M5 comes in three color options – black, white, and gold.
Both the Xperia C5 Ultra and M5 be available later this month in various markets around the world, but pricing has yet to be announced.
