Micro-blogging website Twitter is coming out with a redesigned Android app which is based on Google’s Material Design philosophy. The Material Design comes with grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and they use lighting and shadows for creating depth effects.
Now we find that the app is split into four tabs namely Home, Moments, Notifications, and Messages that can be moved in between by tapping the icons at the top of the screen, or by using a horizontal swipe. Also for composing new tweets we find that there is a floating action bar, which when dragged across from the left hand edge reveals a side menu with shortcuts to reach our profile, lists and Twitter highlights. Also at the top of the menu we find a drop down arrow which lets you switch accounts. It is said by Twitter on Wednesday that the new design is rolling out to everyone on Android and after an app update it will be available.
In a blog post on Tuesday, the Engineering Manager and Twitter for Android, Maryann Vellanikaran said that today we’re introducing a new look and feel for Twitter for Android a redesigned app that aligns with the best of Android. Jeff Seibert, who is the consumer product boss, had taken over the company’s core product team in September last year. He was the one who co-founded crash reporting solution Crashlytics. According to a media report, Twitter is all set to send him back to doing what he was doing before the promotion in the fall, that is, of running Twitter’s developer product suite Fabric. The report also states though Twitter does not have a permanent replacement for Seibert they are planning to give Ed Ho, who is a senior engineering director and has been working at Twitter for two years, the responsibility to take up the role in an interim basis.
