A large number of people were seen wearing virtual reality devices at Moscone Center on Wednesday. The place looked as if the world had progressed overnight to 2026. There was a more tempered outlook for virtual reality sales in 2016, beneath the rampant enthusiasm at the Game Developers Conference. John Riccitiello, longtime game industry executive said, people who attend the event will all own their VR devices. The VR device will be launched by Sony in the month of October as announced by the company on Tuesday. As per Riccitiello the available content is limited and a little rough, till the week’s conference teams with developers working on VR games.

As per Riccitello, CEO of Unity Technologies and former head of Electronic Arts, in the next 10 years, over billion consumers around the world will be using virtual reality devices for shopping, news and social media. The technology will change the way people interact with each other. Sony has high hopes from the device. The PlayStation VR will soon be out of the gate than its main competitors i.e. HTC Vive and Oculus Rift after hitting stores in the fall. Sony has plans to undercut both of its challengers on price. They announced on Tuesday that the pricing of the playstation would be USD 399. Analysts expect the price to be around USD 500.

The shipping of Facebook-owned Oculus Rift will start on March 28 and is priced at USD 599. The shipping of HTC Vive will start in April and is priced at USD 799. Andrew House, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, said during a press conference Tuesday that they believe in getting the price right as it is crucial to drive adoption of any new technology. Many times earlier Sony has priced previous incarnations of the PlayStation above the expectation of consumers’ willingness to pay. The PlayStation VR will boast about 50 games which will include “Battlezone” and “Eve: Valkyrie”.
