CES 2016 showcased the wonderful world of Virtual Reality (VR). There were new drones, household 3D printers and toy-bots, but Virtual Reality stole the show. CES 2016 showcased HTC Vive VR glasses which took gaming to the next level, friendly and easy-to-use VR Cardboard that was available in a lot of skins and many more pleasing techs by international manufacturers. There were many booths from Shenzhen, China as well displaying various tools and devices with VR tech. Chinese products were mostly inexpensive and gave big players a run for their money.
Everyone in Vegas was talking about VR even if they were not showcasing it. To cater to Virtual Reality, Google has made a dedicated arm in their company. Oculus Rift acquisition by Facebook two years ago already forayed on to the platform. Oculus Rift is an excellent device but an expensive option with a pricing at USD 600. Microsoft and Apple also have started their work on their respective version of VR toys.
VR is expected to be the next big tech stop. People can have a tour of destinations which they would not visit otherwise. It enables you to sit on a virtual beach having virtual mojito with friends. VR gives an amazing gaming experience with the option of single player and multiplayer games in credible 3D imagery. Robots can perform surgeries with doctors controlling from distance. VR is a limitless technology and soon it’s going to be larger than life.
India and South East Asia being potential market for Virtual Reality companies, VR tech will soon be entering there. Responses received were very positive from India. India being a price sensitive country, the only concern was the pricing. Makers also face challenge due to India’s ecosystem and educating the users and businesses to use the technology. India already has a few mobile phone based VR devices and accessories.
