Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is launching the fifth phone in the V series, the V5 / V5 Plus on Nov 15. The V5 Plus will be the bigger screen sized variant of the V5. Unlike the earlier models, where bigger screen versions were termed as ‘Max’, Vivo is apparently going in with a more ‘in-vogue’ Plus suffix this time. Just a day before the launch of the V5, though, an image of the phone’s box has leaked online revealing several details about it. The V5 follows the V3 and V3 Max smartphones – you can read the review of the V3 Max by clicking here.
To start off, the highlight of the V5 would be a 20MP selfie-camera, which has long been rumoured. Under the hood, the phone will get an octa-core processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset clocking 1.8GHz with Adreno 510 GPU. The V5 will run Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with the Funtouch OS 2.6 skin on top. The phone will get 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage expandable to 128GB via an external microSD card.
The V5 will sport a 5.5-inch HD display (1280 x 720 px) with 2.5D curved display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. A full metal body along with a fingerprint sensor in the home button location are the other highlights. 4G and VoLTE support will also be standard.
V5’s highlight will be its 20MP selfie camera with a soft-light LED flash. The shooter at the back is a 13MP unit with LED Flash and Phase Detection Auto Focus. Battery will be a 3000mAh unit. The V5 will be 7.55mm thin with a weight of a light 154 grams. Colour options include Gold and Rose Gold shades.
In addition to the V5, we expect Vivo to launch the X9 and X9 Plus phones too. These phone, too, will have a dual 20MP front-facing selfie shooter, while the X9 Plus will get a dual camera setup at the back.
The pricing of the V5 is expected to be at around INR 20,000 and the phone will compete with other similar selfie-oriented smartphones such as the Oppo F1s and Gionee S6s. Watch this space for the live coverage of the Vivo V5 Launch event. Check out a prmotional video of the phone below
