The first trailer for Zoolander 2, Ben Stiller’s follow up to the 2001 cult comedy Zoolander, has leaked online, but it won’t be long before furious executives at Paramount pull it down. We don’t think they should do it, though, as it looks really good.
Twitter users report that the trailer was attached to prints of Paramount’s Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, which hit theaters last Fireday. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t feature any actual footage from the movie, but we do get a look at Derek Zoolander(Ben Stiller), who gets confused by different versions of the sequel’s title.
The preview starts off with a Stephen Hawking-like voice over talking about intelligent life and ends with none other than the ridiculously good looking Zoolander pondering if there really is a God, then why did he create ugly people. There’s also a lot of ‘blue steel’.
Zoolander 2 will arrive in theaters February 12, 2016 with returning cast members Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell joined in the sequel by new additions Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Olivia Munn, Willie Nelson and Justin Bieber. Stiller will once again direct the film off a script by Tropic Thunder scribe and actor Justin Theroux. Stiller and Wilson first announced the sequel by reassuming their male model alter egos on the runway at Paris Fashion Week in March.
Zoolander, which featured a cameo from David Bowie, only grossed $60 million at the box office worldwide, but became a favourite on DVD.
It remains to be seen how long it will take for a full trailer for Zoolander 2 to emerge. Deadpool, which hits theaters on the same day as Zoolander 2, is debuting its red band trailer this coming Tuesday, so perhaps fans can expect a full trailer sooner rather than later.
Watch the trailer below before it also gets pulled.
UPDATE: As expected Paramount, willingly or otherwise, has put up the official trailer on their YouTube channel. Watch it below:
