Wearable fitness device focused MediaTek MT2511 and MT2523 SoCs introduced in India

Smart Wearable devices are the newest trend in the market. It started off with smart watches that brought the convenience of a smartphone to your wrists. Further, the smart watches got smarter and were packed with new intuitive features that let them do more than just managing your smartphone. The latest smart wearables can manage your health and keep a tab on your diet, fitness regime, calorie counts, step counts, your pulse rate and more such things. So, in order to develop these portable devices further, MediaTek has contributed with two new System on Chips (SoC) that are specifically targeted towards the emerging health, fitness and wearables market in India.

With an aim to target fitness & healthcare sector in India, MediaTek India has introduced the MT2511 and the MT2523 SoC. The MT5211 is MediaTek’s first bio-sensing analog front-end (AFE) chip designed for health and fitness devices whereas the MT2523 is designed for active and fitness smartwatches. The MT2523 also happens to the world’s first system-in-package (SiP) to offer GPS, dual-mode Bluetooth Low Energy, and a MIPI-supported high-resolution mobile screen.

With these two chipsets, MediaTek wants to set a footprint in India’s health and fitness market for wearable technology. End products powered by MT2511 and MT2523 are expected to be introduced in the India market by early 2017.

On the launch, Kuldeep Malik, Country Head – Corporate Sales International, MediaTek India expressed that the company has always focused on combining power with efficiency and is leading the charge in bringing this know-how to IoT products in India. He further added that with the MT2523 and MT2511 SoCs, MediaTek aims to broaden the scope of wearable segment in India to also cover health-related applications and deliver a variety of devices like fitness trackers, active lifestyle smart watches, sports and fitness bands.
