Whatsapp Now Allows You to Watch Videos While They’re Still Downloading

Whatsapp in on a rampage in terms on introducing new features; after introducing the video calling feature recently, the messaging service has introduced yet another feature in its messaging app. For the Android beta testers of the application, of which Gizmoids is a part, Whatsapp is now allowing media playback while it’s still downloading. It’s notable that earlier, the users had to wait until the media was completely downloaded before it could be played.

While the feature is currently available only for the beta app, expect it to be rolled out soon to all the devices. We don’t think it’s completely ready yet, though, as our OnePlus 3 device crashed while trying to watch a video while it was still being downloaded. It worked fine on most other occasions though.

Under the skin, the new feature is essentially streaming your media while it is still getting downloaded in the background. Under the new setup, as soon as you receive a video, you will see a play icon over it. Clicking on the icon will start playing the video in a pop-up screen while the file is still downloading in the messaging panel.

Android users interested in checking the feature out early, can go to Google Play and sign in for the beta program.
