Do we need to tell you what Pokemon Go has done to the world? But still for a quick recap, the game was launched barely a month ago; on 6 July 2016 to be precise. And in its run till today it has seamlessly passed the engagement numbers of top social networking websites. These numbers come from a few parts of the world as the game is launched in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and just 11 more countries. Also, its official developers have ignored the Windows 10 mobile platform and released the game only for Andriod and iOS users. Windows device users had also signed a petition on ‘Change.org’ to urge Niantic (official developer of Pokemon Go App) to develop the game for Windows mobile platform. As of now the petition has received more than 80,000 signatures.
While Windows users have got no Pokemon salvation and are left with just salivation for the game, some angelic folks have arrived with blessings. The developer blokes at STApps have released the ‘PoGo-UWP’ open source beta client. Even though the app remains in the beta version as of now, thousands of windows have already, happily, started their Pokemon hunt. The app is not officially available on the Windows app store, but can be downloaded through other web portals.
Even if the window to the Pokemon Go game has been opened for Windows users still there are things to keep in mind. This is not the official version of the game and is developed by a third party source, therefore many risks are included. Some phones may support while others won’t. The developers of this beta version have released a GIF image as a proof that the game works on windows phone, but it can be seen that the interface has received some tweaks. Also, PoGo-UWP does not get the swanky augmented reality interface. Nonetheless, the game is worth a try!
Niantic, the official creator of the Pokemon Go app, has still not talked about any plans to develop the app for the Windows platform. Also, the new unofficial Windows update of their app could be in danger as Niantic could axe its development any time. At the moment, Niantic is going full throttle for the Android and iOS platforms, so it’s about time to see if the petition can push the developer to explore the Windows platform.
