The Xiaomi Mi Max has been unveiled today and we are already loving it for a few good reasons. The gadget-maker from China has been working on various mobile devices and a host of details of the next Mi5 variant and Mi Note2 have surfaced online. With the Note series, Xiaomi entered the dearly loved 5.5 inches market and managed to make a good impact in the mobile market. Now with the Mi Max, the company plans big. With the new phone the company also debuted the highly anticipated MiUI 8 based on the Android Marshmallow.

Design

The Mi Max receives a similar uni-body construction, but fairly larger as on the Mi5. The front gets the mammoth 6.44 inch screen with almost no bezel meddling with the gorgeous screen experience; all thanks to the screen-to-body ratio. On top is the ear-piece speaker placed between 5MP front camera and the proximity sensor. At the bottom are the three touch capacity buttons (Task Manager, Home, and Back).

The volume rocker and the power button are placed on the right side of the frame whereas the what they call it a 3-choose-2 hybrid SIM tray is placed on the left. The phone supports storage expansion upto 128GB via MicroSD card. The 3.5mm audio jack, IR blaster and a noise cancelling mic sits right on top of the frame. At the bottom is a speaker grill carved on either side of the micro USB charging port. The rear gets the 16MP rear camera and a two-tone flash positioned on the top left corner, the finger-print sensor and a MI branding.

Display

Xiaomi phones are known for their decent displays they come equipped with for the price. Even now, with the Mi Max, the company has put up new words and bunch of adjustments to the big screen. Up front will be a gigantic FullHD 16.4cm (6.44 inch) immersive display with PPI count of 342 and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The makers say that with the construction and adjustment options the screen can be comfortably used in sunlight as well as in dimlit environments.

Processors and Memory

The 3GB RAM variant of the Mi Max will be fitted with a Snapdragon 650 hexa-core 1.8GHz max processor that combines Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72. For the 4GB RAM variant, Xiaomi will be plonked with a Qualcomm MSM8976 Snapdragon 652 that will employ Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72. Both the CPUs will be supported with the Adreno 510 GPU. The 3GB and the 4GB models will roll out with an internal storage capacity of 32GB and 128GB respectively. Reportedly a 3GB RAM + 64GB storage variant will be up for sale but not in India.

 Camera

16MP rear camera is built with 5-element lens and uses a ƒ/2.0 aperture. The camera is assisted by a two-tone flash and supports fast Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF). And the standard features like Low light enhancement, HDR, Panorama, Burst mode, Face recognition, and Real-time filters remain the same. The front shooter is a 5MP front camera with a 85° wide angle  and ƒ/2.0 aperture. 36 smart beauty profiles to deck you up for those good selfies. The camera can record 1080p/720p videos at 30fps and slow-mo 720pvideos at 120fps.

Now for the most important part.

The Battery! Xiaomi says that they have pumped in the Mi Max with the largest battery they have ever made. A massive Non-removable 4850mAh is packed inside the Mi Max that is claimed to last for long. For a 5.5 inch phone the phone maker integrated a 4000mAh pack and for the 6.44inch only a bump of 850. As claimed for the Mi Max, the standby and usage times will be improved when combined with MIUI 8’s power-saving features. The Mi Max will likely offer video playback up to 14 hours on a full charge.

For now the tech-spec details of the Mi Max are quite juicy and look like it may live up to its job. Priced at almost 15k and 20k the Mi Max will surely cater to a wide audience. Well it is about time to have the phone in our labs and test and clear the facts that are claimed.
