Xiaomi Redmi 4A, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime Unveiled : Images, Specs and Price

Xiaomi Redmi 4 is finally out. The Chinese phone maker has introduced three different variants of the model line based on different requirements and budgets. The Redmi 4 lineup now comprises of the Redmi 4A, Redmi Standard and Redmi Prime. Let’s have a look at all three variants one by one –

Redmi 4A

The most economical to buy among the new Redmi series phones – the Redmi 4A looks a bit different from the other two. The key differentiator is the Camera, which is a 13MP unit and is located at the top left corner of the back panel along with a single LED flash. Front snapper is a 5mp unit.

The phone dons a full metal body along with a 5″ 720P IPS Display. Powering the Redmi 4A is the Snapdragon 425 chipset with a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 308 GPU, and 2GB of RAM.

There’s no fingerprint scanner on the Redmi 4A. Internal memory is pegged at 16 GB with expandability available through a hybrid dual-SIM slot. Battery is a generous 3120 mAh. Buyers will get Android Marshmallow out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 layered above.

The phone will be available in two colours – gold and rose gold. Price is CNY 499 or $74 or INR 5500 in China. The Redmi 4A goes on sale officially on November 11.

The key visual differentiator between the Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 is the location of the main camera unit. The Redmi 4 gets it in top centre, unlike the 4A which gets it in the top left corner. Another clear distinction is the presence of a fingerprint scanner below the camera which is of an always-on variety.

The Redmi 4 gets a 2.5D glass protection for the 5″ IPS screen with 720p resolution. Powering the Redmi 4, however, is the more powerful Snapdragon 430 chip with an octa-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 505 GPU, and 2 GB of RAM.

Also, the main camera on the Redmi 4, although similar in resolution at 13MP, is a different, superior unit. This camera employs phase detection auto focus and gets a twin LED flash. Front camera is the same 5mp unit as the 4A. The phone gets 16GB of internal memory which is expandable through a hybrid dual SIM slot. Battery is a much bigger 4100 mAh unit here though. The phone gets Bluetooth 4.1 support and will run Android Marshmallow with MIUI 8 on top.

Colour options are gold, silver and dark gray. Price is higher than the 4A at CNY 699, $104, or INR 7000 (China prices). The Redmi 4 will go on sale earlier than 4A, on November 7.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime

The top of the line variant here looks similar to the 4, but has added features and a higher price tag. To start off, the storage is higher, at 32GB. The screen size at 5” is the same as the 4, but is richer at higher 1080p resolution.

Powering the phone is the most powerful chipset among the trio – the Snapdragon 625 with an octa-core 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 506 GPU.
