Android N to be named after Kerala’s ‘Neyappam’?

Android’s next Operating System could be named after a Kerala sweet as Tech Giant Google is conducting a public poll on naming the Android N version. Kerala tourism ministry is officially supporting a campaign to include the name of a popular Kerala sweet in the list. The ministry’s official Twitter page on Friday encouraged people to vote “Neyappam” as a choice for the next OS. According to reports, Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, had first announced that the name for Android N could be chosen via an online poll during his visit to India in the month of December 2015.

Android has been naming its versions after popular sweets from across the world like Lollipop, KitKat, Marshmallow and Ice Cream Sandwich, and if the Kerala tourism ministry has its way, India will soon have its first authentic sweet on the list. Nankhatai is also another Indian sweet dish that may make the cut while nuts, nectar and nachos are other names that gets special mentions on the Google page. Neyappam is a dish made of rice and jaggery, and all those who would like Google to seriously consider it can cast your votes here.
