Facebook introduces new video features and video app for TV

With an objective to improve the video watching experience, Facebook has introduced new features. These several updates are claimed to make watching video on Facebook richer, more engaging and more flexible.

Bringing Sound to Videos in News Feed

To hear the audio of the videos appearing in news feed users had to tap on the video but now a new update plays the video with sound automatically. With this update, the sound fades in and out as you scroll through videos in news feed. This auto sound feature can be turned off by switching off ‘Videos in News Feed Start With Sound’ from the Settings option. Also, if the phone is set to silent, videos will not play with sound.

Vertical Video

Changes have been made for vertical videos to look better on mobile devices by providing it with a larger preview. This larger format is available to everyone watching videos on iOS and Android devices.

Watch and Scroll

It’s now possible to minimize the video that you’re watching to a picture-in-picture view that keeps playing in the corner of the mobile screen and at the same time you browse other stories in News Feed. The video can be dragged to any corner of the screen.  On an Android device, one can keep the video playing even after exiting the Facebook app.

Facebook Video App for TV

Facebook has rolled out a video app for TV which will be up for grabs soon through app stores for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Samsung Smart TV, and more such platforms. With the help of this app, users can watch videos shared by friends or pages, top live videos, and recommended videos based on interests.

Here’s the video released by Facebook which talks about the new features.
