The long awaited moment has finally arrived! nexGTv, India’s largest subscription-led video entertainment app, has announced the winner of its SPOTLight initiative for the month of May. Abhijit C Nair’s short thriller movie, ‘Gajrewali’, was handpicked by none other than the storyteller extraordinaire Imtiaz Ali as the winning entry for the month, while the runner-up spot went to another crime thriller, ‘Diaries’, by Nishant Rana.
A 24-year-old aspiring movie director, Abhijith is a postgraduate in commerce from the University of Mumbai. He is currently working as a Creative Producer with a production firm called Boom Man Studios to develop and understand various nuances involved in the filmmaking process. Nishant Rana, on the other hand, is the Co-founder & Director of Boom Man Studios. A long-time filmmaking enthusiast, he has directed digital ads and web shows for brands such as Kohinoor Rice, Pro Kabaddi League, RBL, nykaa.com and Souq.com.
Speaking on the announcement, Abhesh Verma, COO, nexGTv, said, “As the competition gets fiercer and entries come in from all parts of the country, SPOTLight has become the perfect platform to prove the mettle of your artistry and storytelling talents. In addition to the cash prize on offer, having their entries evaluated by someone as renowned as Imtiaz is in itself a massive draw for many upcoming creative content developers. More and more aspiring directors are choosing our platform to display their talent and we are thrilled to watch the diverse, impactful stories that are being sent in with each edition.”
SPOTLight is a talent discovery platform that enables users to upload a short video on a variety of genres such as horror, satire, drama, social, poetry, comedy, original music, fiction, and reality. Once uploaded, the videos are showcased on nexGTv’s web and mobile platforms. Five videos garnering the maximum viewership are then judged by Imtiaz. The winning storyteller receives the cash prize of INR 1 lakh whereas the runner-up receives a sum of INR 25,000 rupees from nexGTv.
