Their aim of launching their own Android smart phone is not only to end the dominance of Apple’s iPhone in high-end segment but also to have more control over design apart from the software. It is reported by the Telegraph citing people who are familiar with the discussions that the new Google branded smart phone will extend the company’s move into hardware. The report also stated that the new device, which will be released by the end of the year according to a senior source, will see Google take more control over design, manufacturing and software. A tip was received from an IP address situated close to Google’s campus in the beginning of this year, claiming that Google was irritated at the observation that Apple’s iPhone was the only first-class smart phone in the market. It should be remembered that the previous year Google was trying to decide whether they should make their own smart phones. Sunder Pichai, Google’s CEO has been saying that they have no plans of making smart phones which are Google-branded at present. Instead he has been stressing that with greater customizations the company will continue to work together with its partners on the Nexus range. If Google decides to really make their own self-branded smart phones then it may also make the Nexus program immaterial for OEMs and damage their relationship with the existing original equipment manufacturers.
