In October 2013, at a café in Shenzhen a group of five working at Oppo realized that they all used an iPhone. While talking, it suddenly dawned on the group that there existed huge potential for an Android device, with promise to create its own place of providing a superior experience to users. As such a device was not available at that time, they decided to create such a device. This team of 5 friends were obsessed about setting up a company with this vision and set about rolling out a device to fulfill this need of customer requirement. And that is how OnePlus came into existence.

What initially started in Oppo, continued into a planned partnership. Today also, Oppo holds the position of contract manufacturer and technology partner of OnePlus. Actually, there are many common investors in these two companies. In April 2014, the company launched its first flagship device called OnePlus One. Soon after it was launched the company discovered that most attention was from India. After taking into consideration lot of things like online data analytics etc they decided on India. They found the people most active on OnePlus forums were Indians, this point they could not ignore, so they hired an Indian as the General Manager at OnePlus India that is Vikas Agarwal.

Before becoming the General Manager of OnePlus, Agarwal was playing around in the world of startups and ecommerce. His company bulbtiger.com paid more attention in lighting products. Agarwal said consider it as a product similar to Urban Ladder. While they specialised in furniture, we did lights. In the initial stage Agarwal worked as a finance, admin and customer service as well. It was initially decided that they would launch OnePlus One in India during Diwali on October 22, 2014. Being an only employee in India he did not give having his own office much importance, actually he shared his classmates office at Travelyaari.
