HTC has launched the HTC 10 EVO, a sub flagship phone that shares its design, some of the hardware and features with the flagship HTC 10, misses out on a few goodies, and adds some a few others to its list. The HTC 10 Evo gets a premium all-metal construction with chamfered edges. It also gets a fingerprint sensor at the front, and a USB Type-C port at the bottom.
Powering the HTC 10 Evo is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor from 2015, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. External storage can be expanded up to 2TB through a MicroSD card and there is a 3200mAh battery fuelling the phone. The flagship HTC 10 on the other hand runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC with 4GB of RAM. It also comes with a choice of 32GB or 64GB storage.
The HTC 10 Evo gets a slightly bigger screen than the 10, measuring 5.5 inches, though the resolution remains the same. The quad HD (2560 x 1440 px) display on the HTC 10 Evo amounts to a pixel density of 534 PPI, which is slightly lower than the HTC 10’s 564 PPI. The Evo’s screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The HTC 10 EVO measures 153.9 x 77.2mm and weighs 174g, 30 gm more than the HTC 10. The Evo is 8.3mm thick owing to its flat design, while the HTC 10 having a curved design is 9mm thick.
In terms of camera, the HTC 10 Evo has a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture. There is phase detection autofocus here along with optical image stabilisation (OIS). The front shooter is an 8-megapixel unit with an f/2.4 aperture and screen flash.
The HTC 10 Evo also gets HTC’s BoomSound Adaptive Audio which is said to adapt itself according to the shape of your ears. Inside the box you will also get the BoomSound Adaptive Audio Hi-Res earphones. The HTC 10 Evo, however, uses USB Type-C for its headphones unlike the HTC 10, which uses the 3.5mm jack instead.
The HTC 10 Evo runs Android 7.0 Mougat out of the box with HTC Sense UI on top. The phone also gets features like split-screen view, free unlimited photo storage with Google Photos app, and Google Duo video calling app in-built.
The HTC 10 Evo, despite not being the flagship phone sure has some disadvantages over the 10. However, it does have some advantages too, like a bigger screen size, fresher software and more resolution for both cameras.
