Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company that is involved in designing, development, and sale of computer software, consumer electronics and online services. Rumours say that Apple will be abandoning the headphone jack in iPhone 7. The huge design risk was confirmed by the new smart phone iPhone 7’s leak that surfaced online. Fast Company, a latest publication, tapped into an Apple’s source that has knowledge about company’s plans and reaffirmed that the iPhone 7 will not be sporting a headphone jack.
Mark Sullivan, Fast Company writer said that sources also confirmed the rumours that the new phone will be relying on its Lightning cable port to provide sound output to the wired headphones. User will be able to use wireless headphones and that the port is going to be used for power and data transfer in the next breed of iPhones. Mark Sullivan also told that in order to realise the transition, Apple is working with audio chip partner Cirrus Logic. He also informed that the phone will be loaded with a new noise cancelling technology that is from UK-based Wolfson Microelectronics, which is a Cirrus purchase in 2014. This technology will be capable of removing background noise during phone calls and music playback.
Fast Company also states that the noise cancelling feature can directly be included in Apple’s spec for Lightning-based headphones in order to get all these benefits to older iPhone models. According to Fast Company, Apple would be taking a big risk by removing headphones from the box. Fast Company also says that Apple will start selling a more premium pair of noise-cancelling Lightning earphones separately. It would be just including a 3.5mm adaptor in the box.
It was not at all surprising and the news was welcomed by the users very cautiously. More than 200,000 signatures were made on an online petition against the move in 24 hours. The polls present on Apple-specialist websites have also been divided.
