Lenovo has made it public via its official media channels that the company will be launching its Z1 smart phone in India on May 10. The new smart phone is a project that is funded by Lenovo and is actually christened as the ZUK Z1. Lenovo is however branding the device as the Lenovo Z1 for the Indian market. Apart from the premium build quality, the new Lenovo Z1’s USP is indeed the Cyanogen OS. The device will come packed with Cyanogen’s special software that is Android-based and it will also include the various customizations that the software is acclaimed for. The handset is expected to run Cyanogen OS 12.1 out of the box. This particular version is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
The Z1 comes with a 5.5 inch Full HD screen, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor. It is also loaded with a 3 GB RAM and 64 GB of inbuilt storage. The device packs in a 13 MP SONY IMX214 camera on the rear side, and an 8 MP front camera. In addition to this, the key features of the device as revealed by the company include 4G radios, Bluetooth, GPS, USB Type-C port, a fingerprint reader and Wi-Fi. It is powered by a huge 4100 mAh battery.
The company had recently made a claim that the Micromax will not be only company to run Cyanogen OS in India. And with the Z1, it is indeed going to prove this claim. One may remember that Cyanogen, Micromax and Chinese smart phone maker OnePlus went through a rough patch last year, when the former suddenly decided to give exclusive rights to Indian smart phone maker Micromax for its Yu-branded smart phones. This caused a trouble as OnePlus had already started selling its smart phones with the Cyanogen OS.
