Prime Day, Amazon’s 20th birthday celebration to offer double the deals offered on Black Friday

Amazon will celebrate its 20th birthday with a mega online deals and discounts bonanza. Prime Day, as the global e-commerce giant calls the celebrations, will be globally celebrated for 24 hours starting 14th July midnight and is expected to surpass Black Friday in terms of deals and discounts. There is a catch, though. The benefits of Prime Day’s discounts and deals will be available only to the members of Amazon’s Prime service, which costs £79 a year, includes free delivery on all items and access to the company’s Amazon Instant Video platform. The company is claiming more than double the deals offered during last Black Friday.

“We’re offering Prime members thousands of deals on Prime Day. In fact, in the UK we are offering more than double the number of deals that we offered last Black Friday. Prime Day is the latest benefit for Prime members and you can expect us to add further benefits and features to this great service over time,” said Christopher North, managing director at Amazon UK.

The anniversary celebration discounts will be available to shoppers who sign up for the exclusive membership before midnight on Tuesday July 14. The new members will also get a special discount of £20 on the annual Prime membership fee. Prime Day will witness what the company calls several ‘lightning deals’ on a whole range of products, with new deals starting every ten minutes.

Prime Day will cover US, UK and Canada for sure, though more details about the event’s availability across countries are not available yet.  If, however, you are planning to make some big ticket purchases, in electronics or otherwise, buying the Prime membership may turn out to be fair gamble. Stay tuned for more updates.
