Now retailers are also included in Reliance Jio by-invitation trial offer. As the company has no intention of starting the Jio service plans immediately for the consumers, Reliance has launched a programme where retailers will be able to present a limited number of Jio connections to selected customers buying Lyf smart phones. Both Reliance Digital and Reliance Digital Xpress stores have received limited number of invitations which they can use for referring customers who are interested in buying the Lyf phone with the Reliance Jio 4G connection.
According to sector sources last year the company had imported more than two million Lyf handsets which is still in stock with them. It is possible that they have made this offer to clear this stock and liquidize their money blocked. The Business Standard spoke to the Reliance Digital and Reliance Digital Xpress stores in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai said that the process would continue to be based on invitations only difference is that now even the walk in customers would get invitations. Sources say that in order to keep the load on the network in the beginning retailers were given 5 to 9 invitations. All this was according to Jio’s new scheme called the Retailer Referral Programme. Sources inside the company say that under this scheme retailers could refer customers when they came to the stores and allow them to buy the smart phone with 4G service.
Jasvinder Sondh, a sales executive at a Reliance Digital Xpress store in Mumbai said as of now, we have received nine invitations. If a customer comes in to buy a Lyf handset with a Reliance Jio 4G connection, we can use these invitations. But the internal process is the same. It is still an invitation-based system. While Yogesh, who is a sales executive handling Lyf phones in a Reliance Digital store in Bengaluru, said a customer can come to our store and we can provide the invitation internally. This way, he can buy the phone with Jio 4G.
