Samsung has introduced its Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature to its latest Galaxy Watch models in India, including the Galaxy Watch Ultra. This important health monitoring tool, which leverages the BioActive sensor, is now available across a range of Samsung smartwatches, from the Galaxy Watch 4 series to the newest Galaxy Watch Ultra.
IHRN Feature Now Available on Galaxy Watch Ultra
According to a report from SamMobile, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is the latest model to receive the IHRN feature. This function works in tandem with the on-demand Electrocardiogram (ECG) capability, continuously monitoring the wearer for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib). The BioActive sensors embedded in these devices make this continuous monitoring possible, offering users an extra layer of health protection.
Samsung highlights that the IHRN feature has been cleared by the FDA to assist in the early detection of AFib, a condition that is often asymptomatic and can lead to serious complications if undetected. Unlike traditional blood pressure monitors, which may offer AFib detection but are used intermittently, a smartwatch can provide ongoing monitoring since it is worn constantly. This makes the IHRN feature particularly valuable for users who need to keep a close watch on their heart health.
Delayed Rollout in India
While the IHRN feature was announced by Samsung several years ago for its Galaxy Watch lineup, it has only recently become available in India. The delay was likely due to the extended time required for local regulatory approvals. Samsung officially announced in May 2023 that it had received global clearance to roll out this feature, but certifications for the Indian market took longer to finalize. Other advanced health features, such as Blood Pressure monitoring and ECG, have also only recently been introduced to Galaxy Watch models in India.
How to Enable IHRN on Your Galaxy Watch
To activate the IHRN feature, users need to download the Samsung Health Monitor app, which also supports the Blood Pressure and ECG functionalities. The app has recently been updated to version 1.3.4.004, a 58MB update that is required to enable the new features. Once the app is updated, users can activate the IHRN feature through a notification within the app.
A Look at the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra was unveiled in July 2024, alongside the Galaxy Watch 7. Notably, Samsung has replaced the “Pro” branding from its previous models with the “Ultra” label, positioning it as the top-tier option in its smartwatch lineup. Both the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 run on Google’s Wear OS, customized with Samsung’s One UI, providing a robust and user-friendly experience.
With the introduction of IHRN and other health monitoring tools, the Galaxy Watch Ultra solidifies its position as a comprehensive smartwatch designed for those who prioritize health and fitness tracking in their wearable technology.
