Just a week before Batman v Superman makes its big and splashy debut at the San Diego Comic-Con, its makers have released a set of photos exclusively to Entertainment Weekly. The images reveal Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) out of costume as their alter-egos Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince, as well as Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor sporting a ginger mane — a stark contrast to Eisenberg’s bald appearance in a previously released image.
And in addition to the photos, EW also has some new quotes from Ben Affleck about the role, as well as a description of Wayne Manor. The Gone Girl actor describes Batman as being the American version of Hamlet, saying “We accept that he’s played by actors with different interpretations.” Ben Affleck’s Batman will be an older, more tired version of the character. “He’s at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life,” said Affleck. “There’s this sort of world-weariness to it.”
Like fans have predicted before, it is now confirmed that Affleck will be playing the part of an older Bruce Wayne, with gray streaks in his hair. EW also reveals a description of Wayne Manor, which is said to be “a desolate husk, overtaken by weeds and water-stains after years of neglect.”
The big mystery still is Lex Luthor. There really aren’t much information about Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor beyond his hairstyles. He was visually absent from the teaser trailer that was released earlier this year, and his only contribution was a voiceover line where he said, “We know better now, don’t we? Devils don’t come from hell beneath us. They come from the sky” (suggesting he already has a deep hatred for Superman). We’ve heard rumors that the Man of Steel travels to Gotham City to confront Batman in the movie at the behest of Lex, but that has not yet been confirmed.
The last big reveal is about Batman’s armour, considering he would be needing a really strong one to take on the powers of Superman. This comes in the form of a mechanized batsuit, described as making Batman stronger but more importantly it is lined with Kryptonite. Many fans suspected this to be the case, seeing as it is probably the only way Bruce Wayne would have a fighting chance against Superman.
And side note, Bruce and Diana will now each other in Batman v Superman. Ben Affleck said the photo of the two together is from a “Bond-y sexy scene that they wrote about two people who are pretending to be two different people who each know the secrets of the other person.”
What exactly their relationship is, and how big a part Wonder Woman plays in the movie, we will find out when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2015.
