Microsoft and 343 Industries have saved their best reveal for the very end of PAX Prime, and, now that it is here, we can safely say that it was worth the wait. Actually, strike that, that was an understatement: the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians is shaping up to be a very good game. Featuring nerd god Nathan Fillion in all his CGI glory, the Halo 5: Guardians cinematic trailer is three and a half minutes of sheer space gunfights, sword fights, and all round mayhem.
The opening cinematic with the Firefly actor shows that humans are still at war with The Covenant and there is a rescue mission to save someone important against all odds. Master Chief’s storyline continues, but Guardians introduces a brand new central character to the Halo universe – Spartan Locke (as seen in the live action series “Halo: Nightfall”). Peace is shattered when colony worlds are unexpectedly attacked. And when humanity’s greatest hero goes missing, Spartan Locke is tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy.
In Halo 5; Guardians, gamers can play as the Master Chief and Spartan Locke as the hunt plays out across three new worlds. You can choose how to achieve objectives while playing solo with AI teammates or with friends in a 4-player cooperative experience. Also featuring new, massive-scale multiplayer mode that supports 24-player battles with both friendly and enemy AI dropping in. It’s nonstop action when you confront Spartans, Covenant, and Forerunners while trying to complete a variety of objectives.
The Guardians cinematic trailer was directed by 343 Industries and created in collaboration with some of the video game industry’s leading creative talent, such as AXIS Animation, Profile Studios and Warner Bros.
Halo 5: Guardians comes out on the Xbox One video game console on October 27. Until then, feast your eyes on the action below.
