Twitter announces the closure of TweetDeck App for Windows on April 15

Twitter is planning to shut down the TweetDeck application for Windows in the coming month. The popular third-party application was bought by Twitter in the year 2011. Twitter on a blog post added that the change would take effect on April 15. The web version of TweetDeck will still be available for users to use. A Twitter spokesperson said to Venture Beat, that they will be enhancing the overall TweetDeck experience by deprecating the Windows app and activating the TweetDeck cookie. Their main focus for TweetDeck is to continue to build a simpler, more intuitive experience for all Twitter users. The The Chrome and Mac versions of TweetDeck remain untouched.

The company also provided the users with instructions as to how the Web version of TweetDeck has to be pinned to the Windows task bar as a Chrome Web app. All the users just need to open TweetDeck in Chrome browser, click on Customize and control, then on More tools and lastly on Add to taskbar. As per the announcement made by the company the users would now be automatically logged in to the TweetDeck Web client even if they are logged into Twitter.com website. This would give users a more seamless log-in experience. The windows app will not receive updates or any improvements with the shuttering of the TweetDeck application for Windows.

The app is expected to stop working. The news didn’t come as a surprise because the official TweetDeck for Windows app has already been unavailable to download from the official site for roughly a year. As a result users are resorting to third-party app stores and software archives. Clearly the move showed that, Twitter desires to shunt users to TweetDeck’s Web version. New features like Group Direct Messages, TweetDeck Teams, and a confirmation step before Tweeting was added last year.
