While we have already reported in detail about the impressive new Huawei Mate 9 phablet that was launched in Germany, this one here comes across as an even punchier piece of hardware. It’s another story though that the punch comes for almost double the price of the standard machine. The Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design Edition we are talking about here is a phone with specs and performance of monstrous proportions, though it has a price to match.
Those who have even a slight inclination to cars would obviously know that any and everything associated with Porsche Design comes at a hefty premium. The Mate 9 special edition is no different, and hideously as it might have been priced, being an auto enthusiast, I want one.
The Mate 9 Porsche Design gets a smaller 5.5″ screen as compared to the standard model’s 5.9″ size. The entire design of the phone is different from the standard model too, showing more symmetry, sleekness and more premium construction. However, on that smaller screen, the phone is running twice the resolution with its ‘2K’ (2560×1440) specification. And while the processor remains the same, this one boasts a mega 6 GB of RAM, 2 GB over the standard version. Another big spec is the 256 GB of internal storage. The battery size, software, audio, fast charging and other features remain the same though. The price, however, as mentioned in the title is an incredible $1300, which makes it even more desirable for performance car suckers like us.
Porsche was brought on board as an active contributor in design, and it shows in its sleek, symmetrical lines. The super specs and super positioning means that Huawei is trying hard to establish itself as a maker of ultra premium phones not accessible to lesser mortals.
Lighter, sleeker, smaller, yet more powerful, more expensive and more desirable, the Mate 9 Porsche Design is quite a piece of kit if you really ask us, and we think that price tag is justified knowing the branding and the specs.
